Injection Molding Machine Wins the
Director-General's Award from the Agency of
Natural Resources and Energy

The
Ube Machinery MD1400S III large-size
all-electric injection molding machine,
driven by multiple motors, was awarded
the Director-General's Award from the
Agency of Natural Resources and Energy
under the 22nd awards for outstanding
energy-saving equipment, sponsored by the
Japan Machinery Federation. The ceremony
was held on February 6, at the Capital
Tokyu Hotel in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.

Present at the ceremony were Ube Machinery
director and executive officer xxx Sakamoto
(manager, Heavy Machinery Division), executive
officer xxx Yamamoto (manager, Design Department,
Heavy Machinery Division), and xxx Okada
(manager, Resin Molding Machinery Sales
Department). From Niigata Plastic Machinery Co., Inc.,
a partner in the development project, general
manager xxx Ikeda and Sales Management Department
manager xxx Satoh attended. The certificate and
plaque were accepted by director Sakamoto and
general manager Ikeda of Niigata Plastic Machinery.
The MD1400S III has the highest clamping force
(13,700 kN, or 1400 tons) of any multiple-motor
driven press, and compared to hydraulic presses
with clamping force in the 2000-ton class offers
a 20 to 30% improvement in molding cycle, and a
40 to 60% reduction in energy consumption.
Because they do not use hydraulic fluid, there
are no worries about oil leaks, and the shop
environment is cleaner and quieter than ever.
Ube Machinery is now developing a large-size
all-electric injection molding machine utilizing
the new technology, with a clamping force of
17,600 kN, or 1800 tons, slated for sale in the
spring of 2002. The 12 all-electric injection
molding machines sold by Ube Machinery and
Niigata Plastic Machinery will cover the full range
from small- and medium-size machines (30 to 450
tons) through large-size presses for 650, 850,
1000, 1400 and 1800 tons.
